Exercise update...

Ready to Run...Get out of the house!Since starting this blog, I've been pretty consistent about my exercise. I figure consistency is the key right now (since I am so far out of shape that actual "performance" won't happen for a while).

Acronyms = consistency...?
My Standard Daily Workout (SDW) right now is a simple, 1 mile, walk / run / jog near my house. The neighborhood where I live is set up perfectly so that one loop = one mile. "The Loop" also includes a steep uphill, some gradual up/down hills and a final steep downhill. For a one mile course, it has a nice variety of challenges.

From the beginning...
Up until Wed. of this week, I had worked out 10 of the past 11 days and would occasionally see some slight improvements. Some runs would feel easier than others and I've moved towards more jogging and less walking. Occasionally I would be able to push myself to jog to a farther milestone... "I'll go to the black mailbox." or "I'll push up this hill to that driveway."

The fact that I have my own business helps make it easier to stick to a workout schedule since I can get up and go for a run any time I need a break... usually in the late morning after tackling emails. Of course I better get my business "off the ground" soon so that I will be able to continue this lifestyle !

Life Interrupted...
On Wednesday, 8/12, I went to the Toastmasters International Convention at MGM/Foxwoods in Mashantucket, CT. It was my first TM Intl. convention and a very interesting experience. (I will be posting more about it on my Toastmasters blog, www.areaA4.blogspot.com.)

Unfortunately, the convention schedule ran from early morning to late at night which left no time for exercise. In addition, most of the convention was either standing around talking to people or sitting and listening to speakers. I must have been standing quite a bit because I was very tired at the end of each day.... I wonder if walking around the convention might count as a workout?

I also wonder if listening to all the motivational speakers will boost my workouts?

I'm BAAACK !
It is now Sunday morning and I'm finally home. A good night's sleep in my own bed and I'm ready for a workout. The weather is getting hot so I better head out for my run...

Results...?
I went for my first run in 4 days. The sensation was a little like when I did triathlons (years ago). In triathlons, there is a transition from the biking portion to the running portion of the race and since you use substantially different muscles to bike vs. running, there is usually about 5-10 minutes at the beginning of the run where your legs are saying "WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING???". My workout today was a little like that ... which may indicate that all the walking around the convention might have actually helped my fitness ! Gotta love "Stealth Micro-Exercise"!

How is your workout schedule going? What challenges are you facing?
